Helping the poor instead of sacrifice (Qurbani)

Question

If a person intends to make a sacrifice but instead uses that money to help a poor deserving person , will he get the reward of the sacrifice? or will the reward of the sacrifice comes only from slaughtering animal? Keeping in mind that the person cannot help the needy otherwise.

Answer

Sacrifice is obligatory for the person who is eligible to perform sacrifice. By Giving money to the poor he will not get the reward in fact he will be sinful for not performing the obligatory sacrifice. And he who is not eligible to make a sacrifice has the option, whether he makes a sacrifice or gives money to the poor, in such case the sacrifice will not be rewarded, only the act of charity will be rewarded.

Question

It is often observed that Muslims slaughter sacrificial animals on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha and most of the meat wasted due to excess or spoilage, or they throw it away. Can the money spent on animal be given to poor?Is this act of helping is permissible in Islam ?

Answer

If a person is eligible to sacrifice he has to perform the act of slaughtering an animal to fulfill his obligation. Giving away money in charity instead of sacrifice does not fulfill his obligation. Allah Almighty has made innumerable creatures, there is no need to throw the meat it can always be given to others.

سنن الترمذی، فضل الأضحیۃ، رقم الحدیث: 1493 :عن عائشۃ رضی اللّٰہ عنھا أن رسول اللّٰہ صلی اللّٰہ علیہ وسلم قال: ’’ما عمل آدمی من عمل یوم النحر أحب إلی اللّٰہ من إھراق الدم

سنن الدارقطنی، باب الصید والذبائح والأطعمۃ، رقم الحدیث: 34 : عن ابن عباسؓ قال: قال رسول اللّٰہ صلی اللّٰہ علیہ وسلم: ’’ماأنفقت الورق فی شییٔ أفضل من نحیرۃ فی یوم العید‘‘

سنن ابن ماجه (2/ 1044):عن أبي هريرة، أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: من كان له سعة، ولم يضح، فلا يقربن مصلانا

وفی البدائع الصنائع 66/5: ومنھا أن لا یقوم غیرھا مقامھا حتی لو تصدق بعین الشاۃ أو قیمتھا فی الوقت لا یجزیہ عن الأضحیۃ ، لأن الواجب تعلق بالإراقۃ ، والأصل أن الوجوب إذا تعلق بفعل معین أنہ لا یقوم غیرہ مقامہ کما فی الصلاۃ والصوم وغیرھما، شامی 320/6

فی رد المحتار 6/313 کتاب الأضحیۃ : (قولہ أی إراقۃ الدم) قال فی الجوھرۃ : والدلیل علی أنھا الإراقۃ لو تصدق بین الحیوان لم یجز ، والتصدق بلحمھا بعد الذبح مستحب

و فی رد المحتار 6/313 کتاب الأضحیۃ : ھی ذبح حیوان مخصوص بنیۃ القربۃ ۔۔۔۔۔۔۔۔۔۔۔۔ قال فی البدائع : فلا تجزی التضحیۃ بدونھا ، لأن الذبح قد یکون للحم ۔۔۔۔ الخ
