Can Sadaqatul Fitr be Given in Ramadaan Before Eid ul Fitr?

Question

Is it permissible to give Sadaqatul fitr during Ramadan or is it necessary to give it only on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr?

Answer

It should be noted that sadaqatul fitr become obligatory on the day of Eid ul Fitr when suhoor ends and Fajr comes, it must be paid before going for Eid prayers.
If it is not paid, then it has to be paid later, but paying it later will destroy the virtue of this charity. Also, it is makrooh to delay it after the Eid ul Fitr prayers considering the need of the poor. It can also be given in the beginning of Ramadan, as mentioned in the hadiths of some of the Companions of the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to give Sadaqatul Fitr before Eid.

Hazrat Ibn e Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would give it to those who accepts it and they (some of the Companions of Prophet peace be upon them) used to give sadaqatul fitr one or two days before Eid.

وكان ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما يعطيها الذين يقبلونها، وكانوا يعطون قبل الفطر بيوم أو يومين. صحيح البخاري، ۲/۱۳۲، دار طوق النجاة

والأولى الاستدلال بحديث البخاري: وكانوا يعطون قبل الفطر بيوم أو يومين. قال في الفتح: وهذا مما لايخفى على النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، بل لا بد من كونه بإذن سابق؛ فإن الإسقاط قبل الوجوب مما لايعقل، فلم يكونوا يقدمون عليه إلا بسمع. فتاوی شامی، ۲/۳۶۷، سعید
