Taking a Loan for Sacrifice (Qurbani)

NOTE: It should be noted that the below answer is the English translation of the Fatwa issued by Jamia Uloom Islamia Allama Yusuf Banuri Town, Karachi, Pakistan.

Question

I am eligible to perform sacrifice but I don’t have enough money. Will it be permissible for me to perform my sacrifice with borrowed money?

Answer

• If Sacrifice (Qurbani) is compulsory and a person does not have cash, then it will be necessary for him to take a loan and make Qurbani.
• if Qurbani is not compulsory, then it is not better to take a loan. If he does the Qurbani, it will be permissible and he will get the reward and it will be necessary to fulfill his loan.

وفی الفتاوی الھندیۃ ج 5 ص 292 : (وأما شرائط الوجوب) منھا الیسار۔۔۔۔۔۔۔۔ (و أما حکمھا) فالخروج عن عھدۃ الواجب فی الدنیا والوصول إلی الثواب بفضل اللہ تعالی فی العقبی۔

وفی الفتاوی الھندیۃ ج 5 ص 292 : ولو کان علیہ دین بحیث لو صرف فیہ نقص نصابہ لا تجب۔
